You may be asking, "What happened next? Did you really go back to her?" I did! And I don't regret it one bit. This is where I started to live my life for me. I took control of my happiness. I realized I get to choose how my story goes, and I was ready to live with no more guilt or shame! I am so happy that I was able to find my true self. Those three years of trying to "fix" myself still paid off. I learned what I am made of, and what is important to me. I have no doubts, and now I know for sure that I made the right choice for me. I am grateful that I was given that opportunity to find this clarity.
When I went back to Kris for the final time, it was the summer of 2010. It was a great summer! I remember how happy I was! I felt free of worry, and calm in my decision. My heart and my mind were finally working on the same page. It felt great! I couldn't imagine that my life could get any better. Before I knew it, we were engaged!
We had planned to take a trip down to Las Vegas for my birthday (September 24th) and visit some friends, get some sun, relax, and maybe see a show. The night after my birthday, we went to dinner with one of our friends and her girlfriend at a fancy restaurant called "Mi Ami Gabbi", and it was amazing. We ended up taking longer at dinner than we had planned, so we didn't end up going to a show. That is when we decided that it would be fun to go and watch the Bellagio water show. (Side-note: Kris had surprised me with a new cannon camera before we left on the trip, and convinced me to bring it to Vegas to try it out. Kris told me to bring it to dinner that night, and thinking nothing of it, I did.) While we were walking from dinner to the water show, our friend asked if she could see my camera. She told me how she was interested in buying a new one and wanted to try mine out. I was still clueless at this point. When we got over to the Bellagio, it wasn't long until the music started to play. The next thing I knew, Kris was down on her knee asking me to marry her! I said, "YES"! I was so shocked - how could I have not seen this coming? It was such a fun surprise! The crowd around us started clapping after I said yes. It was all so surreal. And, our friend caught it all on camera! (So sneaky!) Such a great memory. To top off the great evening, we went to Serendipity afterward to celebrate! It was a perfect evening in my book. One I will never forget!
